WebCT Faculty Information
WebCT is upgrading!
WebCT merged with Blackboard last year and the name of the new product is not only a mouthful, but can be confused with the Windows operating system, Vista, so we'll just call it BLS (Blackboard Learning System.)
When does this happen?
- Nov. 30, 2007: All material to be migrated needs to be on the system in a current class or template
- Dec. 1, 2007 - Jan. 2, 2008: DO NOT WORK on Spring Courses
Winter Session Faculty - Get Started NOW!
If you want to use WebCT for Winter Session, we will give you space on a Vista 4 server to build your course now, so that you can prepare for Winter Session course in the new environment. We will provide special training and support. The course material will be moved to the new server automatically. Just send an email to webct@salemstate.edu with Winter Session in the subject line.
Faculty Checklist

- 2. Put material you need into the course. If you are using templates please request your course as early as possible, but no later than 11/20/07 Request a WebCT Template

Incomplete student work from Fall term
Faculty with students who have incomplete work extending past 12/25 will need to notify webct@salemstate.edu Include who needs access and how long they need access: 2 weeks, 3 days, etc. Faculty will be given an alternate web address for the students to use to access the fall classes.
Save your Courses
Fill out this form to save your courses for use in future semesters. If you do not save your course, you can't get the course content back later.
E-packs or publisher packs
E-packs might require a new updated version depending on the e-packs. Users with links to a tutor box or other external web sites should check with their publishers. The new version is Blackboard Learning System Enterprise Vista License Version 4.
New Features
- Three types of discussions that include blogging and journals.
- You can list course goals and objectives and then tie them directly to activities like assignments, discussions, tests and readings
- The grading form which is like a rubric and really clarifies the grading process for students.
- Templates are now easy to update and can be applied by faculty with no waiting!
- No more uploading to multiple sections. Share info across sections with only one upload.
